Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Digital African Women how the platform works, the cooperative, selling, pricing, and getting help.

Getting started

What is Digital African Women (DAW)?
DAW is a marketplace and business cooperative built for African women entrepreneurs. You can sell your products to customers, join a cooperative that gives you a free shop plus access to funding and community, and grow your skills through our masterclasses all in one place.
How does the platform work?
DAW brings three things together: a marketplace where entrepreneurs sell and buyers shop; a cooperative you can join for a free shop, loans, and member benefits; and masterclasses to build your skills. You create an account, set up your shop, list your products, and start selling.
Who can use DAW?
Anyone can shop on the marketplace. Selling and cooperative membership are built for African women entrepreneurs and you do not need a registered business to begin.
How do I join / where do I start?
The best way in is to apply to the DAW cooperative membership gives you a free shop and first access. Prefer to go solo? You can register as an independent seller instead. Both start from the “Join” buttons on our homepage and cooperatives page.
I don't know where to start can I get help?
Absolutely. Email us any time at comms@digitalafricanwoman.com and a member of our team will help you get set up.

Cooperative vs. selling

Can I be a seller must I join the cooperative?
You don't have to join the cooperative to sell. Right now, though, DAW is in private betaand we're onboarding through the cooperative first, so joining is the fastest route in. You can still register as an independent seller we'll notify you as soon as independent seller access opens.
What's the difference between a seller and a cooperative member?
A cooperative member pays a monthly contribution and gets a free shop, access to cooperative loans, marketplace and masterclass discounts, community, and first access to new features. An independent seller skips the cooperative and pays a monthly shop fee (₦20,000 / $20) to run a storefront on the marketplace, without the loans and member benefits.
Who can join the cooperative?
African women entrepreneurs. Because we're in private beta with a limited number of spots, cooperative applications go through a short review we'll let you know once you've been approved.
Why is the shop paid for, and cooperative membership paid for too?
They're two separate things and members don't pay both. The monthly shop fee (₦20,000 / $20) is only for independent sellers who choose not to join the cooperative; it covers running your storefront. Cooperative membership is a monthly contribution that includes a free shop(so you don't pay the shop fee at all) and adds loans, discounts, and community on top. In short: membership replaces the shop fee and gives you more.
